Video Wednesday - Simple and To the Music

Joe Merrick - Say It All Now
Joe Merrick is an award winning singer/songwriter who has worked in the Boston area for over twenty years. As the owner of Guilty Dog Studios, he has worked with the likes of Kevin Barry (guitarist for Paula Cole and Mary Chapen Carpenter), Keith Harris (Drummer for Black Eyed Peas), and many more. Also a Guilty Dog recording was included on the season finale for the "Sopranos" for HBO. He has received song writing awards from "ABET", "The Great American Song Contest", "Song of the year", and "Billboard". I could go on how accomplished this guy is but I want to talk about his latest video and his singing talent.

As a musician and vocalist he stands out and his lyrics are pure. They make sense, have meaning and tell a story be it his or in many cases one that you relate to in your own life when listening to this song.  That ability only comes with experience, real musical talent, and not from a machine. The video simple but why would you want to over shine Joe. When he sings he commands the stage. Yes there are other musicians in the video but I never took notice (no offence to them). Joe Merrick reminds us what good music sounds like, with real instruments and a authentic voice. Most of all a song that is relatable, and this video even though simple, it is one I’ve watched over and over again. Also note This is part of the concert film due to be released this summer!

Banda de la Muerte - Pulso de una mente maldita
Not very often do you see a video of the whole album being played and when it does it is usually pretty low grade but not for the Argentinean heavy rockers Banda De Muerte. They  have recently  released their newest album “Pulso de una Mente Maldita” which is their sophomore album. Not only have they released a new album they also had professionally shot footage of themselves performing the release in its entity.

The video was recorded live at one of the biggest night clubs of Buenos Aires, Palacio Alsina and is directed by the Gardel Awards nominee Emiliano Ferrando and recorded, mixed and mastered by Gonzalo "Pájaro" Rainoldi. It is the official premiere of “Pulso de una Mente Maldita” which will was released on March 29th via the Argentinean label Zonda Records.

The thing about the video you can see the emotion of the music, I being both a visual and audio person it is nice to see both. It not being in English this video makes the music understandable. Caught myself singing along. The thing about the video I love is they never stop and you can see the sweat with the emotion, and there is nothing fancy just music.  Also the chances of seeing the band live are low thus a video like this is great to see a band live across the world. Plus as a business sense it is great promotion.
