Zach Deputy Releases Another Day Today

Zach Deputy releases his long-awaited studio album Another Day, today. The album captures Deputy's sensitive side, rich with soulful rhythm and blues numbers, ballads and the kind of 'feel good' enthusiasim that has made Deputy insatiably popular at music festivals and theater dates alike. A 'thoughtful singer and songwriter' (Palm Beach Post, 2011) Deputy can capture your heart as quickly as he does your feet.

“An impressive solo show”
Rachel McCarty, South Kingston Patch, Aug 2011

“He has so much soul in his music”
Candice Martinez, Examiner.com, Aug 2011

“A soulful rhythm and blues album rich with ballads and mid-tempo songs…”
Associated Press, YahooNews, Aug 2011

With the help of Grammy-winning producer Scott Jacoby-- Zach Deputies new album taps into the spirit of Al Green, Taj Mahal and Stevie Wonder while retaining a classic sound and feel. Best described as soulful rhythm and blues, Another Day features 11 original tracks produced with Grammy award winning Scott Jacoby over just 5 days in Mission Sound Recording in Brooklyn, NY. To handle the ever-present Latin, Caribbean and African elements in Zach Deputy's backbeat and place them in the contemporary soul / pop format of the songs, Jacoby tapped Graham Hawthorne (Aretha Franklin, Harry Belafonte, Paul Simon, David Byrne) for the drum kit. Bassist Al Carty came into the studio after having played four church gigs that day. Despite the list of artists he has recorded or toured with (Lou Reed, De La Soul, Carrie Underwood, Gavin DeGraw), the church gigs alone proved that Jacoby was on the mark with this choice for the low end. Zach Deputy is, after all, a soul singer whose music is underpinned by Gospel as much as by any other musical idiom. Equally at home in the Gospel tradition, pianist / organist Will Buthod (Jay-Z, Fat Joe, Alicia Keys, The Harlem Gospel Choir) completed the studio trio that fleshed out Zach's vision for the recording-- a vision made real by Jacoby's pitch perfect choice of accompanists. These four accomplished professionals met for the first time on the first day of recording and worked as if they were old friends with a common purpose.

Another Day will hit the streets today, September 27th. REQUEST A REVIEW COPY

Beer Does Good

This summer I have seen the commercials for the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project and never took a look until recently due to being just to busy but head things that made me to take a look at what the hype was about. Plus the idea of a large company with the Canadian name give back especially beer gets ones curiosity going.

Earlier this year Molson launched the Molson Canadian Red Leaf Project – "a commitment to positively impacting the Canadian environment in communities from coast to coast, incorporating tree plantings, urban greening projects and shoreline cleanup efforts" There are 3 Key partners and programs to this project:

Tree Canada – Through partnership with Molson Canadian will work with Tree Canada to plant 100,000 trees in areas of need throughout Canada.

WWF - Molson Canadian will rejoin WWF in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, a nation-wide event that saw 47,000 people participate in 2010 to clean the shores of lakes, rivers and oceans in their local communities.

Evergreen - An organization whose mandate is to make cities more liveable, Evergreen will work with Molson Canadian on a series of urban greening projects in select communities across Canada.

Also Molson is sponsoring events such as the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, Sept. 17-25, which is cleaning up or land - http://shorelinecleanup.ca/

Not only are they sponsoring events Molson Coors has been a lead sponsor of Carbon Disclosure's Water Disclosure Project since 2010. The company also became a signatory to the United Nations' CEO Water Mandate in 2008 and has modeled its own global water strategy after the mandate's six elements. The strategy has set a target to reduce water use by 15%, per unit of production, by the end of 2012 (baseline year 2008), 4.4hl of water to 1hl of beer. Also they are even doing the little things such as Corn Cups in the Canadian Amphitheatre instead of plastic.

For more information on the Red Leaf Project and how to get beer or those wishing to participate in any of the community events in their area can get involved by visiting http://www.redleafproject.ca/

In reality it doesn't take much when many do little things to cause great change. Be it a local food bank, cleaning up a park or just using less - if we all chip in a little goes a long ways, and in this case there's beer for your good deed!

Advertising, Ya Gotta Love It Sometimes...

This is photo is of an actual advertisement at every Skytrain station in the Metro Vancouver area. Now, cliche joke aside ("They said "hitS" instead of "S--t!" Durr! That's funny!" No.), does anybody else notice anything about Ms. Perry? I think we need a to see the pictoral evidence for proof

Yup, it's official: Katy Perry isn't a sex symbol, she's actually a sex DOLL brought to life. Seperated at birth, I tell ya!

The Few Covers Actually Pulled Off

Even though I am one that believes "write your own songs!", over the years a very few have covered/ redone songs and they ended up being classics; which very few artists can do. Whenever an artist attempts that, the result is usually a copy of an already established tune and it is destroyed but in history a few artists have "redone songs" and it has turned out. Mostly this has happened in history and not many recently.

Am I Evil - Metallica Original Diamondhead - Something I did not know which means it was well done well. At first shocked but hey when its good its good.

"Man Who Sold the World" - Nirvana Original by David Bowie - Kurt Cobain modernized a good tune and gave it a more passionate sound in my opinion.

“R.E.S.P.E.C.T” Aretha Franklin Original Otis Redding. Otis wrote “R.E.S.P.E.C.T” and recorded it initially in 1965, but Aretha Franklin came along and made it the Diva song and hers.

“All Along the Watchtower,” Jimi Hendrix Original Bob Dylan - Here you have two unique artists that really created versions of a song that are classic.

"The House of the Rising Sun - Animals/Frijid Pink/Doors - This is folk song from the United States and it tells of a life gone wrong in New Orleans. The most successful version was recorded by the group The Animals in 1964, then The Doors redid the song and both have their own sound to the folk song that lives on.Along though Frijid Pink who did a psychedelic version that some do prefer.

Sing for the Moment Eminem - "Dream On Aerosmith" Again a remake! Eminem created a new version all together and made his own song. What can I say it worked due to changing the genre completely and used a sample of Aerosmith.

Whataya Want From Me Nakia Reynoso - Original PINK- The song was written by Pink, Max Martin, and Shellback and was recorded by Pink for her fifth studio album, but did not make it to the final cut. So Adam Lambert sung the song made it a hit and pink eventually pink did the same. Though I came across Nakia Reynoso on TV one night and at the time thought it was a new artist with his own song. I will still love Pinks version but I think Nakia has a good future. Just a little personal bias.

BEST COVER DONE
Hurt – Johnny Cash - Original by Nine Inch Nails - Both are amazing versions though its Johnny Cash come on, he can do anything. This song redone was full of passion and told a story by Cash himself. It gave the song a new meaning and interpretation from an old man. Both versions compliment each other but are different contrasts. Heck, it got my grandma to listen to nine inch nails version.

The reason these cover song's have been a hit is because it has been made into its own original and most do not even know it's a cover. At the end of the day do write your own music! When it has original passion and emotions it cannot be copied very often and if it is it means you did something right if other peopel are singing your song even if they butcher it. I leave you with this video of Nakia.

7 Painful Cover Songs To Hear

Personally it's no secret that many cover songs usually end up butchered or some ears are bleeding. Especially with some songs that should never be redone or covered, due to the song is so original that it is known as the song sung by that particular artist/band; I accredit that to vocals and passion. Over the last weeks I have heard so many covered on TV, Commercials, etc. Oh do not forget days that I was dragged to karaoke, a pain in its self alone. In all of this I have my own list of songs that should not be covered!

Nirvana in General - You have had many artists who try to cover Nirvana and yet I am to see success. Here we have a voice that generally makes the songs "Nirvana Songs". Most recent mutilation Myley Cyrus singing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" can you say Hell on Earth.

Mariah Carey Songs - Good luck! Who has not heard these songs butchered and clear a room. Let's face it her range is amazing and very few woman even can hit half her notes. "Emotions" being a song that has tones of them.

Aerosmith - Dream On - The vocal range of Steven Tyler on this song very few males have and when woman sing it - notes are rarely hit all the way through so stop trying!

REM - Losing My Religion - Here you have a voice that is so unique that the song when covered is pure brutality on listeners. We know the song with REM and no one else!

Behind Blue Eyes -The Who - It's a song you hear you know who it's by and the vocals is something that cannot be topped along with the classic sound of teh sound in the recording. There is a passion to this song that remains "The Who's" Song and you just can't copy passion.

Radiohead - Creep - Not a fan of Radiohead but they made a song the makes peoples ears bleed when anyone else does it. The created there own Radiohead song with this one.

Linkin Park Songs - Unless you can sing all raspy-like, and you make people say "you sing just like Chester!!!" Just don't sing them.
THE WORST SONG TO COVER

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen - Why oh why do people think they can pull this song off. This Classic rock opera song is one of a kind and I am yet to see anyone get it right. It's the death song! Think about it - the entire piece took three weeks to record (in 1976!) and you had Freddie Mercury's vocals. Please stop covering this song you only make yourself look bad and on a very long song!

I am one that believes write your own songs though a few artists over the years have pulled it off a cover but not with the above songs. Write your own music and be yourself! Most of all save some ears and do not cover these songs! If by any chance you know a version that has been pulled off please send it to me, miracles do happen but not often. Tomorrow I will post songs that have been covered well!

MF GREENS Monthly Find – "Girls"

Music lovers, hello yet again. How have we been doing? I have interesting story about this month’s musical find for you.

About a year ago, a girl began living at my student house in downtown Toronto. Now, she introduced me to this band called Girls and they sang this song called “Lust For Life.” I thought she had mistaken the original song artist because it was obviously an iconic Iggy Pop song that everyone knew. But I was the mistaken one and the song kicked ass!

However, I soon forgot about the band until a couple days ago when I was flipping through Rolling Stone Magazine and saw that the band had a 7 minute song, “Vomit,” in the top 5 for the week. And I immediately became obsessed with this band, again.

They have a super catchy beach rock sound that can be heard on the hit song, “Lust For Life,” and also on the track, “Laura.” The vocals say it all though, as they are laid back yet completely desirable.

The new track “Vomit” is a much slower piece with a heavy distorted chorus and moving lyrics about looking for love and being lonely. So as always, don’t be afraid to rock out. And most of all, remember to press that repeat button.

Scythia - ...Of Exile (Independent)
Even more so than power metal, folk metal is a very difficult style to get right. It means a lot more than just playing the melody to "The Bonnie Lass O' Fyvie" over blast beats. You have to understand the music and culture of the region whose folk traditions you're incorporating into your music, and this is where a band like Scythia succeeds in spades. Taking more of a traditional metal approach to their style, the band incorporates live..... READ FULL REVIEW

JES - Unleash the Beat
In terms of what is dominating the radio air waves nowadays, trance induced pop music has really made a mark regarding beating people senseless over the head with the redundant four on the floor, and drawn out breakdowns building up to the chorus. While all kinds of music has its cliches, and what is popular may get annoying, no one should overlook a piece of music just because of its genre. JES is best known for being the voice of behind Tiesto’s album Elements of Life... READ FULL REVIEW

Game Is Calling on his Gay Peers - Big surprise There Are Gay Rappers.

Game Is Calling on his gay peers to come out of the closet. Big surprises there are gay rappers. Are they good and not Lady Gaga. So what is the issue? Am I mising something?

The Game insists hip-hop is rife with gay stars who refuse to be honest about their sexuality, and he feels it's time for the individuals to take a stand.

Telling VLADTV.com, "They are the only type of gay people that I have a problem with. Game don't have a problem with gay people. Game has a problem with people who are pretending not to be gay.

"The number one issue with that is that you can be fooling somebody and you could give them AIDS and they can die. So that in the closet s**t is real scary."

Hinting at a huge name Hip Hop industry "(He was) not being just full-out gay, just pretending he loves girls and lives the rap lifestyle, but really he's a man fan... There's a lot of man fans out there in hip-hop. I see how you n--gas be looking at n--gas you're around too."

Misguided on the Aids aspect, STD's are not gay specific, or gender etc; you just never know who has one. I have to say I respect The Game for speaking out and have to agree with him; who cares about someone's sexuality" it doesn't change anything. I do see where in a genre that men act like the man's man along with "gangster" persona there may be fear of coming out in that genre but again those discriminatory are generally "stupid people" and have serious issues and insecurities that they should deal with themselves. Yet we accept Lady Gaga with alter egos, meat dresses, offending people in wheel chairs, or let's just be blunt a nut case or maybe attention whore, take your pick.

Reality is the world has changed a lot even in the last 10 years alone; we are so focused on everyone else (facebook posts twittering and other social medias) and never look in our own backyards. In North America we are a free country. You can say what you want, wear what you want and love who you want. Yet we have those who fight that freedom and discriminate be it on gender, race, appearance etc. Talent is talent Gay or not if you can rap, your sexuality should not be an issue. Come on we let bad music on to the radio all the time. Wake up, someone being gay is not a big thing anymore. Judge people on normal things, like being a general A**hole, that has more merit than what one's sexual gender preference. I.E. the Game is still did a A**hole move with the policeprank a while back.

I am a open minded person and I may offend with this blog but as I have aged - life is just too short. I may not like certain things in life but I don't have to be the judgemental d*ck, when what one believes, does or even loves does not hurt anyone, most of all it is not being shoved down my throat. (ie door to door religion at 7Am! or what a woman's duty is) Being judgemental only makes me a small minded moron wasting my time.

Also note the game at one time was criticized for calling gays "fa**ots" and saying that we weren't "real men,". So if he can change  his opinion on acceptance why can't we all be a little more accepting?

Team iLuminate Worth Watching!

I have never been much for talent shows unless there is something that makes you say wow; Vocals and bands its rare, stunts okay if its death defying, Dance well it has to be nearly perfect and anything else not much that hasn't been done before or is on You Tube. Though Team iLuminate on Americas Got Talent makes you PVR the show and FFWD to watch them.

Team iLuminate for those who are out of the loop use lights and a technology to create a dance and story line performance that makes all ages go wow. How they do this: "Using the world's first wearable, wireless lighting system, this Team is originating nonstop surprises and illusions mixed with incredible dancing. Each member of Team iLuminate brings an irreplaceable talent to the table, making performances a tour-de-force of movement skills." Behind it all is a woman on a lap top running the show who created the iLuminate technology.

Her name is Miral Kotb who is a dancer and software engineer. She not is only beautiful she is a genius who has been dancing since she could walk and wrote her first computer program "Mad Libs" at the age of 9. Add in a Team that rocks, you got a show.

Last week the Team performed on AGT a routine of an old 80's game. You know those old laser type games that was such a huge technology for its time (for us who lived in the 80's). The performance had it all the intro, the fighting, music etc. It reminded me of when I was a kid and had my eyes wide open with all the lights and movement. It's a feeling I won't forget growing up. Watching this Team perform this routine my eyes are wide open again with a new type of lights and movement that is advanced. Most of all it brought back the 80's games in a good way and I got the feeling of seeing something for the first time that is beyond reality.

(Minute In is where it start's)

Last night Team iLuminate did more of a classical music type of performance and even though it was not my favourite performance you can't look away and is still amazing to watch with no disappoint in anyway. The Team keep it interesting and there is a story that is behind every performance and is a must see. With so many live shows to go see that charge an arm and a leg this is one I would actually pay to see and know I would get my money's worth. can't wait to be able to see them live somewhere. I just hope they win the reality talent show in because Team iLuminate show true talent and innovation most of all they deserve a show on the Vegas stage.

Airlines At War With Saggy Pants.

Billie Joe Armstrong , said on Twitter Thursday, "
Just got kicked off a southwest flight because my pants sagged too low!
What the fuck? No joke!"

Saturday morning cartoons have nothing on this non-sense. With the war on terrorism and safe flights concerns now comes saggu pants being a threat. I have seen more breasts, butt and other parts on flights from woman yet the fly with no issues, I have seen things get through security checks that could be questionable yet your pants being too low is something we should all worry about getting on to a plane with.

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong has complained that he was booted from a Southwest Airlines flight in Oakland, CA, because his pants were too low. The flight was going from Oakland to the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank, said Brad Hawkins, a spokesman for Southwest Airlines.

With great coincidence Cindy Qiu, an associate producer at Bay area television station ABC7/KGO-TV, was on the flight and described the incident on her company’s website.

"Qiu said that Armstrong was approached by a flight attendant  and told to pull his pants up. Armstrong initially dismissed the request, asking, "Don't you have better things to do then worry about that?" When the flight attendant repeated the request and threatened to have Armstrong removed from the plane, Armstrong relied "I'm just trying to get to my f**king seat." Armstrong and the person he was with were then removed from the flight.

Later Southwest added, "As soon as we became aware of what had happened, we reached out to apologize for this Customer's experience. He elected to take the next flight. We followed up with this Customer and involved Employees to get more details and, in our latest conversations, understand from the Customer the situation was resolved to his satisfaction."

This is not the first time pants to low were and issue; June 12th a New Mexico football player was booted from a U.S. Airways flight bound for Albuquerque from San Francisco over his saggy pants. Deshon Marman is now suing the airline over the incident.

As a society we worry so much about safety and other things that it goes over board and the big things never get looked at. Just remember the how you wear your pants could get you kicked off a plane so pull them up since it's such a threat and concern for airlines today, but hey those actual threats will sneak by since attendants are more worried about looking add.
