Can't Be Tamed?

Known previously for being a Disney poster child, Miley Cyrus has shed her young and innocent "Hannah Montana" image with her new song and video "Can't Be Tamed". Overall, her new look is far too suggestive, and in the video her outfit resembles a cross between Edward Scissorhands and a robotic bird. The purpose of this new image is obviously to transform Miley from a sweet teen into a rebellious tartlet, like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears became before her. So what is next? Will she shave her head or make out with Madonna? As a modern day pop star there is nothing rebellious about dressing provocatively and seeking attention from older men. Miley Cyrus is 17-years old. What would be rebellious is for her to actually dress and act her age.

New Zealand Band Ross Royce Rock the Famous Whiskey a Gogo

New Zealand band Ross Royce perform a blistering set at the famous Whiskey a Gogo in L.A last Saturday night to fans and music industry figures.

Los Angeles, CA, August 10, 2010 –(PR.com)– New Zealand band Ross Royce performed a blistering set at the famous “Whiskey a gogo” in L.A last Saturday night to fans and key U.S music industry people.

Led by singer/songwriter/frontman Ross Nicholson the band opened the set with the pumping ‘Life Worth Living’ off their debut album of the same name and kept up the pace with a new song ‘Sky is Calling’ off their new mini-album ‘The New Global Cool’. With a set that ebbed and flowed between the crazy screams of lead singer Ross Nicholson to the powerhouse drums of blond female drummer Ingrid Martini and ably backed by 20 year old guitar wizz Ripley Smith and 20 year old bass man Jacob Tiddy the band kicked out an array of dazzling songs to a captivated audience. Not bad for a band formed a year ago that have already started to receive extensive airplay on a number of key indie radio and college radio stations across the U.S as well as indie radio stations World wide.

There has already been a certain buzz building about this band from downunder and this night belonged to them. The band are expected to return to the U.S early next year on the back of an increasing fanbase and solid airplay. Ross Royce Rock.

Sherman Doucette & TANKful of Blues

Sherman ‘TANK’ Doucette and his band TANKful of Blues started the evening so cool and clean it was brilliant. The ‘TANK’ had his vocals and harp sharp, and Saturday night was a real treat as we boogey-woogeyed on an off the dance floor. With Rick ‘Poppa Dawg’ Halisheff on guitar, Grant ‘Granite’ Jones on bass and Brian Maquire on drums, Sherman Doucette and the boys tore the place up.

They performed ‘Too Many Dirty Dishes’ featuring Poppa Dawg doubling on vocals as he laid down some killer rockin’ blues guitar riffs to a packed house. Another number, ‘Take Out Some Insurance’ featured drummer Brian Maguire doing vocals while he hammered out the beat to a packed dance floor.

After the first set, ‘TANK’ sat with my wife and I at our table. I must say I was nervous at first, being my first time meeting with such a Blues icon and mainstay in the music industry. I was quite impressed by his down-to-earth manner. He answered a few questions and we discovered that we have a mutual friend in the BC music scene. I thanked him once again for taking time out, and soon thereafter he returned to the stage and got the crowd revved up again.

Their second set included the original ‘ Love Will Shine’ to such classics as ‘Who Do You Love’. Last night the joint was jumpin’ as they pulled off one hell of a performance. Doucette and his TANKful of Blues puts out one powerful ‘Boogey-Blues’ show. Guaranteed!

For anyone who hasn’t seen Sherman Doucette and TANKful of Blues, do not miss out!”

Katy Perry's Wardrobe Rotation @ The 2010 Teen Choice Awards

Hosting this year’s Teen Choice Awards was pop celebrity, Katy Perry. The perky pop star hosted the event in a remix of many costumes. "Welcome to my teenage dream come true: the Teen Choice Awards 2010!" Perry screamed to the audience as she opened the show in a glittery cocktail dress. Other looks included: a hippie chick costumes and a high school cheerleader’s outfit which had Perry doing splits. She wore a prom dress for one skit and a black wig, black leather outfit and black eyeliner for another. Perry also dressed up an awkward geek with braces. In addition to playing host, the pop star also visited the stage to accept surfboards for her song "California Gurls". Perry later wrote on Twitter to celebrate, "Oh my goth I won a surfboard." If you want to see more of Perry and her many silly costumes, her new video for the song "Teenage Dream" is out.

Lady Gaga Gets the Boot from MTV

Sad news for those of you who still like to watch MTV for the music videos and not Jersey Shore reruns. The network has failed to reach an agreement with Vevo for the rights of Universal Music Group's Web music videos.

That means no more big artists like U2, Amy Winehouse, and even bigger—Lady Gaga. "MTVN has been unwilling to negotiate a fair syndication deal with Vevo to carry our artists' videos and consequently our videos will not be shown on their online properties," a UMG spokesman said.

"During our recent discussions with Vevo, we were unable to reach a fair and equitable agreement for rights to stream UMG artists' music video," MTV said in a statement. "As a result, UMG has elected to pull their music videos from our Web sites. We are disappointed by this move and sincerely hope that UMG will work with us toward... I.YES.NO Update

Greetings Everyone,

Happy that the Vandala Concepts compilation cd is already available for everyone to enjoy, great bands do great songs.

Just trying to keep you up to date with i.yes.no. Great things coming, my first Ep

"Murasaki", is getting it's final touches... is currently being mastered in Australia by one Matthew Gray. The Ep consists of 7 songs, one of them, make love, is featured in the above mentioned compilation.

It's a very personal album, (which isn't) done with lots of love and patience. I can assure everyone that the songs are aching to be heard, and that they're hopeful they might bring a smile or two on peoples faces; although frowns and tears are very much welcome in i.yes.no's world... ; )
Local Japanese label Nonroof / Peoplesrecords are pressing and distributing the record inside Japan, and i'll see that it becomes available thru Vandala Concepts to North Americans as an import.
Live shows follow the release and i am very much looking forward to that. Hopefully i get to play in British Columbia one day... But it looks like i might be touring thru nearby countries here in asia for quite a while. Nothing big, nothing fancy i suppose, at least not for the first six months.

Finally i'd like to say what's up to the folks at VC for being so cool and understanding with us artists, appreciating their interest in getting us heard.

I say goodbye with a very common and beautiful phrase people say to each other here in Japan after a hard days work, it means: Thank you for getting tired.

Otsukaresamadesu!!!

"Dead Weather" Live @ Capitol Hill Block Party

There was no band I was more excited to see at the Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle than The Dead Weather. Scheduled to close the Main Stage at 7:45pm last Sunday, I stood locked with anticipation in a tightly-packed crowd. When the band entered the stage I had a slight realization that White was not the star of the show, but instead behind the drum kit. This hardly diminished his presence, particularly when stalking the stage was Alison Mosshart, his female counterpart with her black frizzy hair, pale-white skin and skinny jeans. The Dead Weather is undoubtedly a full-band effort, but the set was led by Mosshart with her visceral screech and loose-cannon performance.

Completing the band is Jack Lawrence on bass and Dean Fertita on guitar. They ripped through selections of their album, Horehound, with the crowd riding to the rhythm of the performance before them. I particularly appreciated White’s humble and consistent ability to make music where nothing seems either scripted or improvised. That night was an epic tale where legendary musicians poured their soul into their instruments and won the audience from their entrance to their closing bow.
